SC/APC ↔ SC/APC — FTTH Orange, SFR, Bouygues

Green SC/APC connector on both sides. Standard yellow cable or discreet white, available in plain or steel-armoured version for tough routing. OS2 certified, loss ≤ 0.3 dB.

SC/APC ↔ SC/UPC — Freebox & Fritz!Box

Green SC/APC PTO to blue SC/UPC box — Freebox Révolution, Pop, Ultra. Steel-armoured version for conduits or carpet runs. The 30517 model includes the coupler for Fritz!Box.

Steel-armoured — tough routing & jobsite

Braided stainless steel sheath, tensile strength up to 100 N, LSZH. Ideal for routing under carpet, in trunking or in environments with heavy activity. Available in SC/APC, SC/UPC, LC/APC.

Outdoor & reinforced 5 mm cable

FAQ — Simplex fibre optic patch cords

Answers to the most common questions from installers and home users.

1How do I choose between SC/APC, SC/UPC and LC/UPC?
The colour and shape of the connector on your equipment tell you everything:
  • Green connector = SC/APC (8° bevel) → FTTH Orange, SFR, Bouygues, standard PTO
  • Blue SC connector = SC/UPC (flat) → Freebox, legacy equipment
  • Small blue connector = LC/UPC → SFP+ switch, OLT, converter, datacenter
  • Screw connector = FC → OTDR, legacy telecom equipment
When in doubt, look at the colour of the socket on your PTO or equipment. APC (green) and UPC (blue) are not interchangeable without a specific adapter.
2What is the difference between SC/APC and SC/UPC?
  • SC/APC (green): 8° bevel, return loss ≥ 55 dB — eliminates reflections. FTTH standard in France. The angled ferrule sends reflections away from the propagation axis.
  • SC/UPC (blue): flat polished face, return loss ≥ 50 dB. Used on Freebox, legacy equipment and some OLTs.
Plugging an SC/APC cable into an SC/UPC port causes a loss of about 20 dB — the connection does not work. Always check the connector colour on the equipment side.
3Can I use a simplex patch cord instead of a duplex patch cord?
Yes in the following cases: residential FTTH links (PTO ↔ ONT) only use a single fibre — a simplex cable is enough. Likewise, single-mode BiDi SFP+ modules use a single strand in WDM. For standard non-BiDi SFP links (transmit and receive on two separate strands), you need a duplex patch cord or two simplex. See our duplex optical cable page for that case.
4Is the steel-armoured patch cord mandatory?
No, but recommended in these situations:
  • Routing under carpet or parquet with crushing risk
  • Installation in a datacenter raised floor
  • Area with rodents (steel sheath resists biting)
  • Routing in trunking near power cables (mechanical protection)
For a PTO ↔ box connection in a tidy apartment with no constraints, the standard 2.0 mm LSZH version is sufficient.
5What length should I choose for my patch cord?
Practical rule: measure the actual distance along the cable path (not as the crow flies) and add 20 % margin for curves and future changes. Available lengths range from 0.5 m to 30 m. An overlong patch cord can be coiled without issue if the bend radius stays > 30 mm. A too-short patch cord forces mechanical strain on the connectors — always avoid this.
6Are these patch cords compatible with Cisco, Huawei, ZTE equipment?
Yes. Simplex OS2 9/125 µm patch cords comply with ITU-T G.652D, the universal standard compatible with all equipment on the market: Cisco, Huawei, ZTE, Nokia, Ericsson, TP-Link, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik, and all GPON/XGS-PON OLTs. Compatibility depends only on the connector type (SC, LC, FC) — not on the manufacturer.
7How can I test the quality of a fibre optic patch cord?
Three methods depending on the context:
  • Visual inspection (200× fibre microscope): ferrule face clean, free of scratches or dust. Fastest method before each connection.
  • IL/RL measurement (optical power meter + source): measures insertion loss. Expected values: IL ≤ 0.3 dB, RL ≥ 50 dB.
  • OTDR: traces reflection along the cable length, locates defects. See our fibre tooling range.
