Optical module categories

Choose by connector type, speed and fiber mode. Each module is plug & play and multi-brand compatible.

SFP SC Simplex (1G BiDi)

Single-mode BiDi modules with SC connector. Work in pairs (Tx/Rx on a single fiber). Ideal for ELFCAM converters and long-distance links up to 20 km.

SFP LC Simplex (1G BiDi)

Single-mode BiDi modules with LC connector. A single fiber is enough thanks to WDM multiplexing. Reach up to 80 km depending on the model.

SFP LC Duplex (1G)

1 Gbps modules with LC duplex connector — single-mode (OS2) or multimode (OM1–OM4). The most common format for switches and routers.

10G SFP+ LC Duplex

High-performance 10 Gbps modules in LC duplex. Single-mode (up to 10 km) or multimode (up to 300 m). For 10G switches, NAS and fiber backbone.

10G SFP+ Simplex (BiDi)

10 Gbps BiDi modules — a single fiber thanks to WDM multiplexing. Save on cabling while keeping 10G performance.

SFP / SFP+ RJ45 (Copper)

RJ45 copper modules to connect an SFP/SFP+ port directly via Ethernet. Ideal for Freebox Ultra/Delta and short-distance conversions (up to 30 m).

FAQ — Optical Modules

Quick answers to the most frequently asked questions.

1What's the difference between SFP and SFP+?
SFP supports up to 1.25 Gbps, while SFP+ goes up to 10 Gbps. Both use the same physical format, but an SFP port cannot accommodate an SFP+ module (except for backward compatibility on some switches). An SFP+ port, however, accepts SFP 1G modules.
2Simplex (BiDi) or Duplex: how to choose?
  • Simplex (BiDi): a single fiber is enough — Tx and Rx on different wavelengths. Saves fiber, works in pairs (A + B).
  • Duplex: two fibers (one per direction). Easier to diagnose, compatible with most standard equipment.
3Which module for my Freebox Ultra or Delta?
The Freebox Ultra has an SFP+ port. You can insert an RJ45 (ref 15580) module for a direct Ethernet connection, or an SFP+ multimode (ref 17690) module for a short-distance fiber link. The Freebox Delta uses a standard SFP port.
4Are ELFCAM modules compatible with Cisco / Ubiquiti / TP-Link?
Yes. Our modules are coded for multi-brand compatibility: Cisco, Ubiquiti, TP-Link, Netgear, HP, Intel, Juniper, Huawei, D-Link, Mikrotik, ZTE, Aruba. No configuration or reprogramming is required.
5Single-mode or multimode: which one to choose?
  • Multimode (850 nm): short distance (≤ 550 m). Cheaper, ideal for connections within a building.
  • Single-mode (1310/1550 nm): long distance (10–80 km). Required for inter-building or campus links.
Check the type of fiber already installed (OM3/OM4 = multimode, OS2 = single-mode).
6What is DDM / DOM?
DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) lets you monitor in real time the module's Tx/Rx optical power, temperature and voltage directly from your switch interface. All ELFCAM modules include this feature.
7What is the maximum reach of an SFP module?
It depends on the fiber type and wavelength:
  • RJ45 copper: 30 m
  • Multimode 850 nm: 300–550 m
  • Single-mode 1310 nm: 10–20 km
  • Single-mode 1550 nm: up to 80 km
8Do BiDi modules need to be paired?
Yes. BiDi modules work in pairs: a module A (Tx 1310 nm / Rx 1550 nm) and a module B (Tx 1550 nm / Rx 1310 nm). Both ends of the link must use complementary wavelengths.
